Where Lake Geneva's Boat Season Goes After the Riviera Docks Close

  • October 22, 2026

Between Thursday, October 29, and Sunday, November 1, downtown Lake Geneva closes three seasonal fixtures and cuts back the hours of a fourth. The boats don't stop running in November, though. They leave from a different town. From late November through December, the lake's busiest holiday sailings board at a winter harbor in Williams Bay. Downtown Lake Geneva spends most of November on land, with a shorter museum week and an unusually empty calendar until the Electric Christmas Parade brings the crowds back on December 5.

So for a Lake Geneva resident, November has two halves. The lake's holiday season runs on the west end of the shore, and downtown runs on its own clock.

Four Days, Four Last Calls

The run of season-enders starts Thursday, October 29, and finishes Sunday, November 1:

  • Thursday, October 29: The Lake Geneva Farmers Market holds its last Thursday of 2026 at Horticultural Hall, 330 Broad Street, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The weekly run began May 7, and admission is free.
  • Saturday, October 31: Lake Geneva Cruise Line closes out its regular season, which runs May 1 through October 31. The Cruise Line's calendar for that Saturday lists a 10:30 a.m. Black Point Estate Tour, an 11:30 a.m. Best of the Lake Tour, an 11:30 a.m. Luncheon Cruise and a 12:30 p.m. Black Point Estate Tour, among other departures.
  • Sunday, November 1: Black Point Estate & Gardens ends its posted 2026 season, which ran May 2 to November 1, and closes for the winter until May 2027. Its tour boat leaves from the Riviera Docks at 812 Wrigley Drive, so the end of Black Point's season also ends one more reason to stand on that pier.
  • Starting in November: The Geneva Lake Museum moves to its November and December schedule. It's open Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., with no Tuesday through Thursday hours listed.

Three of the four close within about 72 hours, and the museum goes to its shorter week. For anyone who lives within walking distance of Wrigley Drive and Broad Street, the weekend of October 31 is when downtown switches from a summer destination to a year-round town.

The Lakefront After the Lifeguards Leave

The beach went first. The City's September 2026 Municipal Minute said Riviera Beach on Wrigley Drive would close for the season at 5 p.m. on Labor Day, September 7. "Closed" here means unstaffed. Visit Lake Geneva's Riviera Beach listing says the beach stays open to the public outside staffed and admission hours, and anyone swimming then does so at their own risk.

Once the last Black Point boat pulls out, the sand is still there, the gate fees are gone and the tour lines are gone too. The beach was there all summer. In November it's quiet.

Where the Boats Go

The Cruise Line doesn't stop running in November. It changes docks. Its Santa Cruise boards at the Winter Harbor, 1 Liechty Drive in Williams Bay. That's also home to Gage Marine and the PIER 290 restaurant.

The 2026 Santa Cruise schedule runs November 20 through December 30. Here's how it works for a family coming from Lake Geneva:

The boat and the route

The cruise is a 40-minute tour aboard a heated, decorated vintage boat. It passes lighted displays along the shoreline, and from the boat passengers can see "Santa's Hideaway," where Santa reads the first names of the children on board from his "Nice List." You enter those names when you book.

Pricing that follows the calendar

Prices change by day, and the Cruise Line says weekday cruises cost less and feel more relaxed. The two cheapest dates come first. Bookings for the preview weekend, Friday, November 20, and Saturday, November 21, get 25% off automatically. The booking calendar shows $28 for those two days and $37 for the Friday through Sunday after Thanksgiving. The Cruise Line says weekends sell out quickly.

Getting there

On weekdays you can park on-site at Liechty Drive. On weekends the Cruise Line runs a free shuttle from Williams Bay High School and says shuttle plans may change.

After the kids are in bed

The holiday harbor has an adult schedule as well. Adults-only karaoke cruises for guests 21 and older board every Saturday night at 8:20 p.m. Drinks come from Santa's Bar inside the Christmas Festival.

Thanksgiving Weekend, Both Ends of the Lake

On Thanksgiving weekend the two halves of the season line up.

In Williams Bay, The Christmas Festival opens November 27 in the PIER 290 Boat Showroom and runs through December 30. Admission is free. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The festival is also the Santa Cruise check-in point, where you pick up boarding passes, children can send wish lists to Santa, and a raffle raises money for local charities. Visit Lake Geneva's listing says six charities benefit, and the Cruise Line names the 531 Fund. PIER 290 is running a kids-eat-free offer this holiday season for families who want dinner before or after a cruise.

The same weekend, downtown Lake Geneva holds Light Up Lake Geneva. Visit Lake Geneva's annual events guide describes it as a tree lighting and holiday open house on the weekend after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving 2026 falls on November 26. The same guide lists the Geneva Lake Museum's Parade of Trees as a yearly event that runs from late November into early January. With the museum on its four-day winter week, plan any visit for a Monday, Friday, Saturday or Sunday.

City Hall is closed Thursday, November 26, and Friday, November 27.

The Night Downtown Fills Back Up

The 51st Electric Christmas Parade steps off downtown at 5 p.m. on Saturday, December 5, and travels along Williams, Broad and Main streets. Float registration closes November 6, so groups planning an entry have about two weeks after this post publishes. The parade page on Visit Lake Geneva has route and parking details. Check it closer to the date, because the posted parking-closure note should match the December 5 parade day.

Broad Street links the whole stretch. It's home to Horticultural Hall, where the farmers market wraps up on October 29, and it's part of the parade route on December 5. The season closes and reopens on the same street, five weeks apart.

Parking and Streets Downtown This Winter

Two construction projects will shape downtown errands through the quiet months.

The new electrical substation behind the Lake Geneva Museum is under construction from mid-September 2026 through April 2027. The work includes tearing down the old substation, laying underground utilities, building new walls and installing a transformer. The City expects above-ground work to continue through March. Part of the back row of the Sage Street lot, nearest the site, is reserved for the full project. At some stages, five to nine spaces in the center of the lot may be blocked for large construction loads. Those blocks are planned for Monday through Wednesday but sometimes run longer. For a parade-night or Parade of Trees visit, the City's Parking Services Department is the place to check other options.

Cook Street reconstruction, from Main Street to Geneva Street plus the alley to Madison Street, started around September 8 and was scheduled to finish by mid-October. It covers storm drains, curb and gutter, sidewalk and asphalt. TDS contractors are also expected to keep installing fiber-optic lines around the city through the end of 2026.

Looking further ahead, the City has a Hwy 50 construction page for the project planned for 2027 and 2028.

A Six-Week Plan for Downtown Residents

  1. October 29: Last farmers market at Horticultural Hall, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
  2. October 31: Last regular Cruise Line departures from the Riviera Docks.
  3. November 1: Black Point Estate & Gardens closes for the winter. The Geneva Lake Museum's November and December schedule takes over: Monday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  4. November 6: Float registration closes for the Electric Christmas Parade.
  5. November 20 and 21: Santa Cruise preview weekend at 1 Liechty Drive, Williams Bay, with 25% off.
  6. November 27 to 29: The Christmas Festival opens in Williams Bay, and Light Up Lake Geneva runs downtown.
  7. December 5: The 51st Electric Christmas Parade, 5 p.m., along Williams, Broad and Main.

Between November 1 and November 20, neither town has a lake event on this list. Downtown is at its quietest until the holiday sailings start in Williams Bay.

Here at Shannon Blay and the Keefe + Blay Real Estate Group, we plan our own fall around these same dates, from the last Saturday cruise at the Riviera to parade night on Broad Street. If you're curious what your home near the lakefront is worth during the quiet season, we'd be glad to put together a free home valuation, with no pressure and no rush.
